CAUSES FOR FEMALE’s HAIR LOSS: DID YOU KNOW?

Female Hair Loss and hair related problems are more common than you may think, with up to 13% of women experiencing some form of hair loss before menopause according to some research. The major cause of hair loss in women or Female Pattern Baldness is thought to be a combination of physical, hormonal, and emotional changes.

Before we move on to specific causes of balding and Alopecia in women, here are some basic facts related to hair and hair loss -
• In general, there are around 5 millions hairs on the average human body.
• On average, the scalp consists of around 100,000 hairs and approximately 100 of these hairs are lost from your scalp each day.
• Hair Loss is not gender or age specific as anyone from women to men to children can experience the problem.
• Generally speaking, both men and women tend to lose hair thickness with age. Inherited or “pattern baldness” is a major cause of concern, particularly with men rather than women.
• Hair loss in women can begin as early as the age of 20. An estimation report states that around 40% of Women Hair Loss is noticed by the age of 40.
Alopecia is a form of hair loss from areas of the body, usually from the scalp. Because it causes bald spots on the head, especially in the first stages, it is sometimes called spot baldness. In 1–2% of cases, the condition can spread to the entire scalp.

The causes of hair loss or Alopecia can also be attributed to other factors including lifestyle and physical problems. Here is a look at some of the other reasons –

• Excessive stress and depression
• Poor nutrition
• Vitamin deficiency
• Infections of the scalp
• Inadequate dietary protein consumption
• Excessive and improper use of hair products
• Excessive hair styling (including shampooing and blow drying) or hairstyles that pull your hair too tightly

Although there may be no definitive cause of Female Pattern Baldness or balding in women, research points to poor health, lifestyle, and medical conditions as having a strong connection to the problem.
