Hair Follicles or Grafting |Stop Hair Loss with Hair Transplantation

HAIR TRANSPLANTATION –

This scientific process is considered a popular, highly successful, and permanent solution to stop hair loss in both men and women. A hair transplantation involves a strip of hair bearing scalp surgically removed, dissected into follicular unit grafts and placed strategically angled miniature incisions where the hair loss has occurred. The new hair will not be restricted in its growth or form of style and will grow throughout your lifetime.

Advantages and Disadvantages to Hair Transplants

Even though the process is a relatively minor procedure, it is still surgery and carries the risk of complication. Infection is the most common of these medical risks. Likewise, there is the fact that hair transplants can be extremely costly. The cost of any given transplant depends on the number of grafts (transplanted hair follicles) that are involved. Often times each graft costs between $3 and $10. This means that the entire procedure may cost well over $10,000+ but the price of each operation does vary considerably. Yet, despite any potential negatives and high costs, many people elect to receive hair transplants based on the many possible advantages of the procedure.

Pros:
- Establishes a hairline, frames the face and provides coverage to the bald scalp
- Creates a distribution that can “stand on its own”
- Grafts can be placed close together, completing look
- Ability to gain a ‘full head of hair’ again or fill in balding spots
- Transplanted hair will behave as that of natural hair in all aspects and as the growth will be normal; you may have to continue with your regular haircuts and other styling methods
- Gained confidence
- High success rate
- Works immediately.

Cons:

- Hair Transplant is a surgery and hence the patient is likely to get exposed to all the surgery related risks
- The patient may also lose blood due to bleeding which may lead to infection and scarring
- Multiple transplants are usually needed to get the desired look or amount of hair
- A scar is left where the hair is removed from the back of the scalp
- Transplant procedure will prove to be very expensive and certainly, the transplant method cannot be your hair loss cure if you have a limited or fixed budget
- Can be a very painful procedure & recovery
- Normally the cost is worked out on a per hair basis at the rate of $3 to $10 per hair strand and when you just arrive at the cost for transplant of around 2000 hair strands, you can imagine how big will be the financial burden
- A grid-like pattern (rows) is needed to pack grafts very densely and this can look unnatural in certain lighting
- Must clip the patient’s hair very short or shave for the procedure – which is cosmetically unacceptable for many patients
- Very large sessions run the risk of wide donor scarring – the problem is that you can’t always judge in advance who this person may be. Particularly, scalp laxity may not be a reliable indicator, since those with very loose scalps may be the poorest healers. With a very large first procedure, there is greater risk of an unacceptable scar and fewer options to correct it.
- Sutures are not always used as a way of closing the donor area in hair transplants and instead, staples are used and they sometimes leave a more defined line-scar after the hair restoration but they do not ‘waste’ any hair whatsoever.
- Does NOT Stop Hair Loss Pattern

Misconceptions related to : Hair Transplantation
One common misconception regarding hair transplantation is that hair transplanted via grafts (transplanted hair follicles) is not necessarily permanent. Transplanted hair can, and often does, thin after the procedure. The transplanted hair, however, is generally more resistant to falling out and usually remains much thicker than the individual's natural hair.
